Laos Tours >> Luang Prabang Laos   Luang Prabang Revealed 4 Days / 3 Nights

This tour allows you to explore the land of ‘a million elephants’ with a combination of Luang Prabang city sightseeing and a unique experience on a Lao elephant at the Adventure and Elephant camp. Other highlights include visits to the many temple sites of Luang Prabang city and browsing the textiles and artwork of the local hill tribe people at the night market.  A visit to the beautiful Khouangsi Waterfalls is a must and you will enjoy dropping by a few hilltribe villages to meet the friendly ethnic minorities, to learn about their colourful lives and sample their local rice wine. A fun-filled culturally rewarding tour, revealing the best Luang Prabang has to offer!

Day 1. Arrival – Luang Prabang ( D )

On arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. After a short rest, we visit the impressive stupa of Wat Visoun and the shrine of Wat Aham and Wat Mai. We then climb up to the top of Mount Phousi for an enjoyable exploration of the sacred, gilded stupa as well as a beautiful sunset view of the city and the Mekong River. From there, we explore the Night Market, where you can find a lovely selection of handmade textiles made by the hilltribe and local people surrounding Luang Prabang. Overnight in Luang Prabang

Day 2. Luang Prabang – Pak Ou cave – Khouangsi waterfall  ( B, L, D )

An optional early start gives you the fantastic opportunity to participate in the daily morning rituals of saffron-clad monks collecting offerings of Alms (often in the form of sticky rice) from the faithful residents. This tradition is very unique in Laos, being the only Buddhist nation still preserving the ritual.

AM: After breakfast, we enjoy a short-guided tour seeing the city’s oldest temple of Wat Sene and the magnificent Wat Xiengthong with its roofs sweeping low to the ground, which represents classical Laotian architecture. We then board a cruise upstream on the Mekong River, which also gives us a panaromic view of the tranquil countryside as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, two linked caves crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes left by pilgrims.  Along the way, we stop at the small village of Ban Xanghai, where the local rice wine is distilled. We return to Luang Prabang in the afternoon.

PM: We continue our excursion toward Khouangsi Waterfall. En route, we visit local villages of Lao ethnic minority groups at Ban Ouay, a Hmong village, Ban Ou, Laoloum Village and Ban Thapene, all Khmu villages.  We then drive to the beautiful Khouangsi Waterfall where you can take a dip in the inviting pools or walk along the forest trails surrounding the falls. We return to Luang Prabang by late afternoon and continue to Ban Xangkhong, a village well known for silk handweaving and for traditional Saa Paper making. We return to the city by late evening to admire the sunset at Wat Siphouthabath. Overnight in Luang Prabang

Day 3.Luang Prabang – Lao Spirit Adventure – Luang Prabang (Elephant ride + rafting)( B, L, D )

This is a full day trip combining a rafting tour out of town with some sightseeing and an exciting elephant ride to/from Tad Sae Waterfall (or alternative route in dry season). This activity programe provides you with a breathtaking and unique experience as you make your way through the forests and along the Nam Khan River up to the waterfalls of Tad Sae. (In dry season we ride a village trail) After visiting the waterfall, lunch is served before a relaxing 30 minute rafting tour along the river back to the resort and then we return to Luang Prabang by sunset. Today we visit the National Museum (closed Tuesdays) at the former Royal Palace.  It displays a collection of artefacts reflecting the richness of Lao culture dating from the days of the early kings right through to the last sovereign. There will also be time for us to look around the Central Market. After visiting these sights in the morning, there may be free time (depending on your flight) to venture into town and stroll around the shopping area.
