Full Itinerary

Day 1: Vientiane ( L, D )

 (ride motorbike 97 KM to) Phou Khao Khouay Park – Ban Na & Elephant Community Based Tourism Development Project – Trek through Local Villages (5km) – Overnight on Viewing Tower
Start this trip in the morning from Vientiane by motorcycle. One and a half hour’s drive towards the south along the road 13, passing by through local villages where we can stop for a breather. Arrive in Phou Khao Khouay Park and continue to Ban Na Wild Elephant Spotting Tower (and Community Based Tourism Development Project). Spend the rest of the day with your guide, and a local guide, learning about Elephants, and their history in this area. Your local guide will brief you on how to behave around the pachyderms, should you spot any. Safety is always the first issue, and it is crucial you pay attention to this information.

During the day time we will be walking around in the area. But in the evening, we must all stay in the confines of the Elephant spotting tower, located near a ‘mineral lick’. Elephants often come to this lick in the evening hours, and, depending on the season, chances are good you will see one! Overnight on the tower, in sleeping bags, in safe but rustic surroundings.

Day 2: Village & Elephant Tower – Ban Na ( L, D )

(drive 60km to) Phaxay & Thad Xay Cliffs – Twin Waterfalls – Swimming – Camping overnight at Falls
After breakfast, walk back (5KM on a different trail) to the village of Ban Na, where our gear and motorbikes are waiting. It may be possible in the early morning to see Elephants on this trek. Arrive in Ban Na village to collect our gear and motorbikes. Then drive about 60km+ around the southern tip of the park, and then north to several levels of waterfalls on the Nam Xai River. Visit the high, picturesque waterfalls of Phaxay cliff. Great photo opportunities! Continue walking to Tad Xay water fall for a swim. Drive about 13km+ to overnight camping near Tad Leuk waterfall.

Day 3: Tad Leuk Waterfall area – Trekking in Primary Forest – Swimming ( L, D )

(drive 150km + to) VientianeIn the morning we prepare the breakfast ourselves, then walk with a local guide for several hours through primary forest, interspersed with bamboo, then stop for a picnic lunch. After lunch take a short rest, and enjoy a refreshing swim in the river.

Then continue trekking along the riverside to see the forest and possibly wildlife. Note that today’s trekking can be as long or short as you like. But you must coordinate level of challenge with your guide beforehand. Then drive your motorbike back to Vientiane to arrive before 1800hrs. Once in Vientiane, our staff will send you to the hotel of your choice or the airport.
