I thought I would start my Laos holiday with a trip to Pakse, I have heard so much about this place and it was time to check it out. I started the day off checking into my hotel and chilling out as I was quite exhausted by all the travel to get here. I grabbed a few brochures and sourced a few adventure tours writing down the ones that interested me. It seems there is a lot to do here in Pakse.
I started the next day with a nice breakfast at the hotel before heading off to Ban Saphai which is a small island on Don Kho, 17 kilometers from Pakse along the Mekong River. Ban Saphai is known for its silk weaving. Quite an interesting adventure tour today. All the houses are on stilts as the families do the silk threading underneath where they can stay cooler.
Next our group went and had lunch at a small restaurant on the western side of the island. It was a great spot overlooking the beach. I went for a swim after lunch to cool off. We did some more looking around and mingled with a few of the locals then headed back into town. I went back to my hotel to rest up for the next day’s adventure tour.
I woke nice and early, had some breakie and headed off to Tad Nguing. Waterfalls are always great to look at and this one has some pretty good reviews from tourists. It is a beautiful spot, so much greenery, stunning to look at. You have a short work over some rocks before you can unwind and take a dip in the crystal clear water.
Then our tour guide took us to some more waterfalls before heading home. Tad Fane has twin waterfalls spilling 200 meters down into a deep gorge in the jungle. Unfortunately you cannot swim here but it’s definitely worth visiting, they are quite spectacular to look at. Don’t forget your camera; I took so many great shots.
The adventure tour has come to an end for the day. We headed back into town where I was dropped at my hotel. I met a really nice couple on the tour who are at my hotel so we decided to have some dinner together. This is what is great about travelling; you always meet people along the way and gather some great friends to keep in contact with.
