Vientiane Tours took me on unforgettable tour to Vientiane in Laos, the capital and the largest city situated on the Mekong River. It became the capital in 1563 due to Burmese invasion fears. With tourism flourishing and economic growth it has now become the centre of Laos. This city has some interesting history. Until the French rebuilt it at the beginning of their colonial reign it lay it ruins for decades. Weirdly it does not feature the French influence like Phnom Penh and Saigon, it has a strong Thai influence instead.
There is so much to do in this city. So many Vientiane Tours available, you just need to sit down and think about what you want to see and do. It is good if you can allow yourself some time here, at least a couple of days. I chose to stay here for one week as I really wanted to check this place out; this was one Laos adventure I was going to make the most of.
So where did I start you ask? I stated at the COPE Visitor Centre as it is a number 1 on many to do lists in this place. I was not disappointed. This place is amazing and has so much information and insight into the history of Vientiane. What shocked me the most is the fact that Vientiane was the most bombed city in the world during the Vietnam War; I certainly did not know this. Although fascinating it was also a little sad.
My Vientiane Tour took me to Buddha Park next. I have to admit I love my Buddha’s and I love the meaning behind it all. This Laos tour was really fascinating, there are over 100 cement statues of Buddha’s. It was very interesting, if not unique. Not for everyone perhaps but I enjoyed it and plenty of space for kids to run around. You could even take a picnic with you and chill out in the park for a while.
It was a hot and eventful day so I decided to call it a day in the late afternoon, I need to have a cold drink, a shower and rest my body for the next day of Laos adventures. There is still so much more to do and explore in Vientiane, I am glad I have given myself a week here. Stay tuned, plenty more exciting Laos adventures to come.
